Calista Lockley

Instability is a challenge most people will face in their lives and will effect everyone differently. Whether it be financial, mental or circumstantial it can feel like you’re lost in the world without two feet firm on the ground. The pandemic has amplified this for millions of people in Britain, so what my painting means to me is an endless cycle of routine during my unstable times.

I attempted to show this with a self portrait. I thought my personal experience should be displayed through me only, as everyone is different. I’ve continued to develop my practice with acrylic paint and I tried painting myself from an angle I wouldn’t normally use to broaden my skills. I chose to use acrylic paint, as I find I can get more depth and texture compared to other mediums
